Empty Lot on Hook Ave.

This empty lot was being used by an auto-body shop (behind viewer), to store junk cars.

This painting has gone missing after hanging for a period of time (too long) at a local establishment...oh, well.

  1. Hi Leo!

I just found your blog via Jerry's. I met Jerry at a paint out challenge organized by OPAS last weekend. I see you also paint plein air, and very nice work too! I noticed you use oil pastels. I am curious, what kind are they, and what paper do you use?
If you ever want to meet and paint let me know! There are not too many of us plein air painters in TO :)

  2. Thanks for commenting Dalibor and I'm sorry for taking so long to respond. The oil pastels brands I generally use for plein air are Cry-pass Specialized. These are often then layered over with the creamier Sennelier brand, when the base just won't absorb any more of the harder consistency of the Cry-pass or to give a more impasto like feel. For the base, I work on a high calliper canvas paper because of it's sturdiness and it also takes a great deal more abuse than paper for plein air work. Jerry and I often paint together but I did not get out to that plein air session you mentioned but I may join you all in the future, if you ever decide to paint subject matter with a more urban theme...it's just that that's kind of been my focus for some time now.
